Sh1t load of compression and gate on nearly everything except. Very hard to recreate as you say. I bet there was so much tweaking it would be impossible to recreate. Hours and hours. 🤣

Interestingly enough, I used [mostly] iOS GarageBand 🎸 to compose my very own version of SPACE SHANTY but with a CHRISTMAS 🎄/FESTIVE feel to it-I’ve called it *_Interstellar Christmas._* I had to listen 🎧 to SPACE SHANTY repeatedly in order to replicate every musical 🎶 motif, riff and drum 🥁 pattern/fill etc. This project of mine (creating INTERSTELLAR CHRISTMAS) was between late 2017 and early 2020 when I was going through a *very dark phase in my life* when certain past memories plagued me repeatedly inasmuch I couldn’t create proper music 🎵 for YEARS. That said dark phase I refer to as the LEFTFIELD REGIME where I invented a fictional version of LEFTFIELD which featured people I met sparingly but infatuatedly OBSESSED 🤩 about (whom I’m choosing not to name for the sake of this convo). In this case, no. The original song is 1:20 long, contains no chords, implies nothing but the vocal sample and that's it. It's actually a perfect track to sample. And Aphex Twin made a whole new deal with this tiny idea that was NOT EXPLORED by Steve Jeffries, Mary Carewe & Donald Greig. They could only come up with a minute and a half. Sorry, there's no reason to call this stealing if others had BETTER ideas for your whimsical recordings.

so i think with the break sample, as you mentioned you couldn't quite get the pitch to sound quite on par with the original....try tweaking the pitch, then resampling it and tweaking the pitch up, then resampling it and tweaking it down, all in cents until it's right. i would think a couple resamples with each pass in a slightly detuned pitch, you'd get it spot on. just one way of doing it.

i like how you're apologizing for using the sounds from the track for demonstration purposes meanwhile this genre of music is heavily based on lifting other artists sounds haha. thanks for this video. it's great!

they already settled this, copyright wise. this is called sampling. seriously wtf do you mean morally wrong?? all hiphop, house, techno etc is based on sampling and has been from the start. What Richard did here is what everyone did, does and always will do in electronic music.

I used to feel like I had to craft everything myself, now I think to me it's like there are 2 different skillsets that overlap. Either can be used for good or evil, creativity or mimicry, etc. On one extreme end you have DJs, who play whole tracks, and create experiences with nothing but playlists and transitions. On the other end, you have people who grow their own trees and hand craft their own guitars. Somewhere between the DJ side and the middle you have the loop/stem mixers, musique concrete, etc... Toward the middle I would put producers who use samples. To the other side you have everything from people who recreate sounds using synths/etc if they want to use them, to people who deny the fact that they have been influenced by things they've heard in the past, all the way to someone trying to create their own universe simulator with emergent properties such as harmony.

He did nothing wrong. People have used Samples for nearly 40 years. Most of the time when something is sampled, it is taken somewhere else and isn't an exact copy of the original. We have musically imitated people ever since Music was first recorded.

i love the note on the tuning. jackie mclean played slightly sharp. i love the idea of tweaking tuning and seeing how out you can get something to stay in.

american copyright laws will NEVER be equivalent to morality. IMO holding copyright at all is morally wrong especially for something like music, there is no scarcity of ideas, my idea existing doesn't take anything away from you, copyright theft is not theft. it doesn't matter morally how much you change the sample, you should be free to express your creativity without capitalism holding you back. what i mean by this is that if we weren't forced to monetize our passions we wouldn't be fighting over rights, we would be building off each others ideas as a community. capitalism destroys innovation, and it destroys art, if you are an artist and you aren't pro sampling then you probably are a shitty artist and a shitty person
